We are extremely disappointed that Dr Dizaei was not successful in his application to become a Commander in the Metropolitan Police. The decision was made by the Metropolitan Police Authority.
We would like to point out the following.
For the last 5 years not a single black or Asian police officer has been appointed by the Metropolitan Police Authority to the rank of Commander or above.
There are only 2 ethnic minority chief officers in the entire Metropolitan Police Chief Officer rank.
Chief Superintendent Dizaei's performance as a Borough Commander was graded as Exceptional for the last 2 years.
His Borough is one of the best performing Boroughs in the Met.
Despite graduating with one of the highest grades from the Strategic Command Course (course which qualifies officers for potential Chief Officer rank) he is the only one in his class who has not been promoted.
We suspect the decision of the Metropolitan Police Authority was not free from bias and could not have been reached on the basis of objective and fair criteria. We will continue to support Chief Superintendent Dizaei, who is a valuable member of our Association and a respected member of the Metropolitan Police Service.
